The Flipped Classroom: Teaching A, An, and The

Hello everyone,

In our latest project for the Current Issues in Teaching course, we explored the flipped classroom approach by creating a video on the grammar topic: A, An, and The (articles in English). Working as a team, we aimed to make learning interactive and engaging for high school prep-level students with A1-A2 proficiency.

Our Video Content

We started by explaining the rules for using “a” and “an” with singular countable nouns and their dependence on the following word's sound. Next, we introduced “the” as the definite article and discussed its use with both countable and uncountable nouns when something is specific. To enhance understanding, we included examples, pictures, and practice exercises in the video.

Reflection on the Process

Creating this video was both fun and challenging. We faced some technical difficulties while editing, but using tools like Canva, we created a visually appealing and clear video. The process also highlighted how multimedia can make grammar more accessible for students.

The flipped classroom approach allowed us to reflect on teaching grammar interactively. You can check out our video here: https://youtu.be/dxXk8xbfPfk?si=wDt-s4rwy8tDgZsC
